I liked “In the Spotlight” book one of “Mayne Attraction” series. I would have given it four stars, really liking it except for a few things. In the beginning, the prologue, we meet a couple of shady characters, they come in early in the first few chapters, never to be heard from again, the story ends (with a cliff hanger) never explaining who, or why they are in the story. I am assuming they come in later in one of the other books, but I found myself asking over and over, what about those guys. The characters are likable, similar to a lot of YA characters. The girl is shy, clumsy and doesn’t know she is beautiful, the guys are hot and handsome. I am still not sure where the series is going, I was anticipating a big twist, but was disappointed in the lack of one. Having said all of that, the book is told through the eyes of the 18 year old girl, the writing is good, there was a nice mix of humor, no swearing, the only sexual content is a few insinuations and nothing between the main characters, in fact they begin and end as virgins. So a lot to like about this book, and whenever the remaining books come out, I will read them. I can recommend for ages 14 and up. Definitely a chick book.

Book Review for “Fearless”-Christian Military Biography

This was a wonderful biography of a true American Hero. Adam was the golden boy growing up, friend and defender to all. He became up as a drug addict as a young adult, but turned his life over to God, and became a Navy Seal. His team is the one who ultimately took out Bin Laden. This true story will touch your heart and make you proud of our enlisted men and women. I give this book 5 stars and recommend it to Christian and non Christians alike. A piece of modern history!

Book Review for “Legacy”-YA Fantasy

I was given a copy of Legacy by the author, through Story Cartel, in exchange for an honest review. This was a great fantasy. I am very sad that I have to now wait for the other books to be written! This story sucks you in right away. Two worlds, one future America, the other a mediaeval bio dome, where the second generation occupants have never witnessed modern technology. The main characters are well rounded, the sarcastic cyperpunk, the old school big brother and his sister that live in the bio dome, and several secondary characters that come into play. There is mystery, romance, quite a bit of humor. I loved it! Mild swearing, no sexual content. Good for ages 14 and up. Did I mention I loved the cover too!

Book Review for “King”-Christian Fantasy

This was the third book in the trilogy, I loved them all. R.J. Larson is now one of my favorite fantasy writers, and she writes Christian fantasy. Her writing is not “cheesy” and everything faith based is all just part of a wonderfully woven story. Typical fantasy with swords, armies, good versus evil, some romance, and intrigue. I can recommend for teens up. No swearing or sexual content. There is violence and bloodshed. This book finishes up the story of the “Prophet”, the “Judge”, and now we have the “King.” All young adults used by the Infinite to bring about His will. Think Old Testament. 5+ stars for me and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Book Review for “Judge”-Christian Fantasy

Great Christian fiction and fantasy!! I loved both the first book “Prophet” and now book two “Judge.” These allegories tell of the life of a prophet and those who give their lives to the “infinite.” Set in a medieval setting with swords, kings, lords, and servants, “Judge” continues the story of a young prophet and the man who loves her. You will see a retelling, in a new way, of some stories from the bible, such as: Jonah and the fish, and some of Elijah’s, and Jeremiah’s stories. R.J. Larson is one of a new favorites of mine. Fun fantasy, yet still a good message. Great for teens and up, no swearing and no sexual content. I give it 5+ stars.

Book Review for “Normal is the Watchword”- YA paranormal

I was given a copy of “Normal is the Watchword” by the author, Jasmine Tru, in exchange for an honest review. This is a paranormal fiction that I think is suited for teens. The story line is a popular one right now with half-angel’s running around unknown to the population. Some are good and some are evil. If you are looking for biblical fiction, this isn’t it, but if you are looking for plain old make-believe fiction, you’ll enjoy the read. On the positive, I like the two main characters. On the negative, it is a repeated theme. Also, it sort of just ends. It is a series and though I hate cliff hangers, I do like to see some kind of closer at the end of each story. Over all a good read. No sex, and no swearing. There is fighting and violence. I give it a solid 3 stars, I “liked” it. In fact I will probably read the rest of the series.

Book Review for “Prophet”-Christian Fiction/Fantasy

So loved this book! I purchased it long ago and it has been sitting in my kindle. Had I known how great it was going to be a would have read it earlier. One of the best Christian fantasy I have read. This is a fiction/allegory that just impressed upon me how good God is and how much authority we really have, if we would only use it. Prophet has all the elements of a good fantasy, swords, intrigue, supernatural, and some romance. There is heart touching scenes, battle scenes, humorous dialogue, what more could you ask. Oh, I forgot the best part, no swearing or sex! Great for teens on up. I give it 5+ stars. Though it is the first in a trilogy, it can be read as a stand alone. I for one am moving right on to the next book.
