Beauty’s Curse-My Third Published Book

“Beauty’s Curse is an adult fantasy/fairytale that spans centuries of bondage, shown through the intertwined lives of four people. Esmeralda, Victor, Nicholas and Adelaide are living under a curse, some of their own making, some by the cruelty of others, and a curse once cast cannot be broken. For years they have toiled under their prospective curses, each in their own way, trying to live with the burdens and troubles. Then along comes Hope, who proves that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and is better judged by what in the heart of a person. True love can break the chains that bind.”

I have always loved fairytales in the traditional sense. I love some of the new “fantasy” books as well. Beauty’s Curse, though not written as “Christian” is a clean romance that has good values and a moral (like all good fairytales). This book is appropriate for high school age and up.

Book Review for “A Warrior’s Return”

The prodigal returns. I was given the first three books in “The Warrior Kind” series and liked them so much I purchased the fourth. Again I loved it. The books have not dwindled or repeated the same stories over and over with different scenery. The story continues with most of the same characters. Plenty of action, suspense and romance. Clean sci fi/fantasy written from a Christian perspective. Looking forward to the next book that I hear should be out soon. Still some editing issues, but worth the small amount of trouble. I enjoyed the story line so much that I am still giving it 5 stars despite the issues. Good for teens and up.

Book Review for “Jewel of Hiram” -Fiction

I was given a copy of “Jewel of Hiram” by the Author, Frank Felton, in exchange for an honest review. This book was packed with U.S. History, (including Masonic lore), as well as mystery. Hidden treasure and hidden agendas abound in this story. I have to admit I got a little confused in a couple of places, but it all came together as the story progresses. Warning: Written by a Christian, but there is some swearing, including taking God’s name in vain. Also it quotes some books as part of the bible, but that are not part of the biblical canon. For these reasons I give it 3 stars. I read it as fiction, as it was intended and I liked it. His characters, though flawed are the kind you can root for. Frank Felton has a good writing style and the story kept me going despite the differences in our beliefs. I do intend to read the rest of the series as they come out.

Book Review for “Talon’s Test and the Shield of Faith” – Christian Sci Fi

I was given a copy of “Talon’s Test and the Shield of Faith” by the author, Nicholas Downing, in exchange for an honest review. I happen to love sci fi, every since I was a child. Very little is out there with a Christian viewpoint. This one is full of biblical phrases, and morals. It’s like reading some of the stories of the old testament if it had happened in the future where there is life on other planets. There is a military element, romance, fighting scenes (that reminded me a lot of Louis L’amour books) and non-human life forms. Good writing. A very fun read. I give this book five stars. It is definitely clean enough for all ages.

Book Review for “Warriors Journey”-Christian Fiction Sci Fi

Loved it! This is book two of A Warrior’s Kind series and it is even better than book one. There are some grammar and editing issues, but very minor. The story is great. Think of Sci Fi knights in shining armor. Great Christian theme. In this book, the actions that they take just to get a copy of a Bible is amazing. Impatiently waiting for book three. I have been privileged to read these in exchange for an honest review by the author, Guy Stanton III. I give this book 5 stars despite the errors, it is just that good. Again, adult content, though nothing explicit.

Book Review for “Voices of Hope” – Science Fiction

I picked this Sci Fi book up for .25 from the library and didn’t know it was the last one of a series of several books. So at first the “trannie” language really confused me. By about midway I was catching on to almost all of it. It is told from the viewpoint of about 5 people so you really have to pay attention to the chapter headings that let you know who’s in charge. A great book about the differences in financial status in a future society. Has some military aspects but I am guessing not as much as the first few books. Great morals, a small amount of swearing and some of that is in a futuristic slang. There is also a lot of violence, and it’s pretty vivid, so I can’t recommend for younger than high school. I give it 4 stars and will be reading the first books as well.

Book Review for “External Forces” – YA Dystopian Fiction

This was a great dystopian YA read. The society in this future has shut out those that have deviated from their “norm” and those inside the walls are trained to hate those outside. A mix of military, romance and friendship. I would recommend for high school and up due to some sexual content. Nothing too explicit. This is the first in a series and I will be reading the rest. The book ends in a good place, but doesn’t finish the story. I wouldn’t read it as a stand alone, though I guess you could. My curiosity wants to find out about the rest of the story. Good writing, some of the romance a little predictable, but usually is. Great first book for Deborah Rix! I give it a solid 4 stars.
