I was given a copy of “Runner” by the author, Sharon Sant, in exchange for an honest review. This is a YA Dystopian novel who’s main character, Elijah, meets up with a group of ‘runners’ who are trying to stay a step ahead of those chasing them. This story is about teamwork, loyalty and how a group of people can become a family. I enjoyed the story and would recommend it for ages pre-teen and up. Sharon Sant has an easy writing style and a way with characters. I would definitely read more of this author’s work. I give the book 5 stars for YA readers.

Book Review for “Land of the Unaltered”
I was given a copy of “Land of the Unaltered” by the author, Leti Del Mar, in exchange for an honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It is intended as a YA and is definitely suitable for pre-teens and up. The story is based on a dystopian society that is obsessed with looking perfect and they are constantly being “altered”, but there are those who are unaltered who want freedom. The story speaks volumes about our own obsession with looks. Great read. I give it 5 stars as a YA, 4 for adult. Looking forward to the next book as this is the first in a series.
Book Review for “Foreverland is Dead”
I was given a copy of “Foreverland is Dead” by the author, Tony Bertauski, in exchange for an honest review. This one kept me on the edge of my seat through the whole thing. I stayed up way too late and picked it up firs thing in the morning to finish it! Then the ending completely blew me away. I can almost always figure out the plot line, but this one kept me guessing until the end. It’s a story of an alternate reality populated by teenage girls who are trapped. The story is gritty and fast paced. I really enjoyed it. I would definitely read more from this author and am looking forward to the next book in the Foreverland series. I give the book 5 stars. I would recommend it for age 13 and up.
Book Review for “The Changeling”
The Changeling by Christopher Shields is the second book in the Weald Fae Journals. A fantasy/fairytale. I loved the first book, The Steward and this one is just as good. A book filled with Fae (fairies) and set in the mountains of Arkansas, it is every fairytale lover’s dream. Maggie O’Shea, the main character is a strong feminine character that will do anything to protect her family and friends from the evil fae. As the title states, there is a changeling in book two. Maggie desperately tries to save her little brother, Mitch, while the changeling takes his place in their lives. A great read! I give this book 5+ stars. My only disappointment is that the third book isn’t finished yet. Good for ages 13 and up.
Book Review for “Valens Rise”
I was given a copy of this book by the author, Sherrel Lee, in exchange for an honest review. I liked the basis of this story, an alternate human race, shape shifting and mad scientists. To me it moved a little slow and took a long time to get to the meatier parts of the story. I had a hard time getting real attached to the characters. Over all it was a good read, if a bit long. I think this book would appeal to a younger audience, I would consider the sexual content to be for age 17 and up, not that it was explicit, just mature. I give this book 3 stars.

Book Review for “Eden” (Now re-released as “Bane”)
I just finished reading “Eden” which has been re-released as “Bane” by Keary Taylor. I am not sure how much is changed between the first and the second publication, but I loved this Dystopian story. The characters suck you into their world, especially Eve. This is a new twist for me and Dystopia, a cyborg- infection has just about wiped out mankind and the few survivors are trying to stay alive. I am definitely reading the rest of the trilogy. Book two is available and not sure when book three is coming out. This one is clean enough for even pre-teens. No flesh eating zombies here, but a tough female character and some great secondary characters as well. I give this book 5 stars.
Review for “Daughters of the Ocean” by Jennifer Gropp
I think this book has potential to be a good YA story. The plot is similar to Twilight, with enough differences to make it interesting, instead of vampires this story is populated by sons of Thor and Merfolk. Unfortunately, the grammar, spelling and general typos were frequent enough to frustrate my reading. The story is told from two points of view, which I liked, except for the fact that sometimes it was just repeating the exact same conversation twice. Because I think the story line will apeal to the audience it is intended for, I have given it 3 stars. My opinion is that a good re-write could earn at least 4 stars (and probably 5 from the intended YA audience).
