A Life To Celebrate

On March 26th my Dad, Eddie Max McCoy Sr., passed away. My husband and I drove from Wisconsin to Washington state to be with family for the funeral service, in the town my parents retired in. A “Celebration of Life” memorial is being planned for a later date. So on the long trip over, I had time to think about the things we could celebrate about my Dad’s life.

My Dad wasn’t perfect. He had his flaws. He was just a tad stubborn, sometimes he lacked patience, and his temper ran on the warm side. His life was full of mistakes, bad times, and some wrong choices (like most lives). He did have his shining moments. There were successes as well as failures, mountain top experiences as well as the valleys, and many, many good times.

Dad wasn’t the perfect parent, but he loved us all, was a good provider, and genuinely wanted our lives to be better than his was. That stubbornness also came out as tenacity and he never gave up. Through every bad time, he stuck it out. He showed us how to fight back and to expect things to get better. He had a peculiar sense of humor that all of his children and grandchildren will remember forever. God gifted him to be a story teller and we grew up hearing stories about his life. (Some were great examples of what not to do!) Dad also was artistically gifted. He loved to paint and sculpt. I am thankful for that as we will always have his artwork to remember him by. If Dad ever saw someone needed a hand, he was quick to step up.

Though patience wasn’t always one of his virtues, there were times he had the patience of Job. Some of my fondest memories are from when we went camping as kids. He patiently untangled lines, unhooked snags, and for me, baited my hook (I couldn’t do the worm thing). To this day I still love to fish (my husband still untangles my line and baits my hook). He left all of his kids with so much. Yes, we tend to be stubborn, and some of us tend to have a bit of a temper, and we are still learning to be patient, but we also all have some artistic ability, we can all tell a story, and like him, we all know how to help out in a pinch.

The most important thing my Dad ever did was to put his trust in God and give his heart to Jesus. Two times my Dad had died and was brought back. Both times, though his body was going through terrible issues, his spirit experienced something totally different. One of those times, as my Mom drove him to the hospital, his body convulsed and it was all she could do to drive and keep him on the seat, but later, by Dad’s account, we found out that his spirit was in perfect peace. He experienced no pain, worry, or regret. Just perfect peace. I too have had one of those experiences and can confirm the peacefulness of the passing of our spirit. So I am confident that though his body has passed away, my Dad still lives, in peace, with the Prince of Peace, where there is no pain, sorrow, or regret.

So, my Dad wasn’t perfect and his life certainly wasn’t. But his life was full and is most definitely a life worth celebrating. He will be sorely missed by many.

I firmly believe that his hope, for us who are left behind, (and my prayer) is that you would follow his example. Place your trust in Father, and surrender your hearts to Jesus, so that when it is our time to give up these mortal bodies, we too can be with him in Heaven.

Closer Yet- Christian Devotional (Written by Me)

All Christians are on a journey with the Lord. Sometimes we walk away from Him, sometimes we stumble and bumble our way, and sometimes we stay on the path that He has set before us. The important thing about our walk is not that we have made mistakes or have seemingly failed at times, but that we can always get back on the right path. The pages of this devotional come from just such a journey.

The Lord Is My Shepherd

Shepherd2BB[1]

Psalm 23:1-6 (AMP)
Verse 1- “The Lord is my shepherd [to feed, guide and shield me,] I shall not lack.”

What do you lack? Nothing!
Thank you, Lord, that I lack no good thing. You feed me and you show me where to go.

Verse 2- “He makes me lie down in (fresh, tender) green pastures; He leads me beside still and restful waters.”

Sheep won’t drink out of troubled, moving, water. God knows this. He leads His sheep to waters that are calm. Only goats eat tough, dry grass, so God provides pasture that is lush and green for us.
Thank you, Lord that you are the only one who really knows what I need and you provide it for me.

Verse 3- “He refreshes and restores my life – myself; He leads me in the path of righteousness [uprightness and right standing with Him – not for my earning it, but] for His name’s sake.”

God knows this world can be distressing, taxing, and tiring. So, He refreshes us, shows us how to stay right with God. He leads us on the path we need to be on to have a transformed life.
Thank you, Lord, for time of refreshing.

Verse 4- “Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless,] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil; for you are with me Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide] they comfort me.”

We don’t ever have to taste death! Only walk under its shadow. Even then we don’t walk along. We go through and He is there to protect, guide and comfort us along the way.
Thank you, Lord, that you always bring us through.

Verse 5- “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil; my [brimming] cup runs over.”

God is preparing a wonderful feast. We will sit and eat right in front of Satan and his minions. Every demon that has ever plagued us will witness our victory celebration.
Thank you, Lord, for not just anointing me, but giving me more than enough so that I can do what you’ve asked me to do.

Verse 6- “Surely or only goodness, mercy and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life; and through the length of days the house of the Lord [and His presence] shall be my dwelling place.”

A boat leaves a ‘wake’ behind it. A jet leaves a stream in the sky. We leave goodness and mercy, only, in a wake behind us! If we are moving forward.
Thank you, Lord, that I dwell with you in Heavenly places, forever!

Shalom!

Peace. To be safe, to be complete.

Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”

The worlds definition of peace is the absence of war, dissention, stressful situations or strife. But that isn’t God’s definition. His peace is a quiet confidence in your heart that God is for you. It’s a heart that trusts in Him. His ability and His willingness to always be there for you. He doesn’t always take you out of the storm, but He can calm the storm in your heart, if you let Him.

God’s peace gives you a sound, whole and complete mind and an un-divided heart. It gives you the courage to fight and the strength to stand. It moves us forward.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. It is not as the world gives that I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not let it be afraid.”

Book Review for “The High Duties of Patia”-Fantasy Fiction

I just loved this book! Because It had all three books in one volume, it was a very long read. I read and read, cried and cried, chuckled and read some more. Then when it all finished up, I was not ready to say goodbye to all my new friends! This is an epic fantasy, many characters, (think of Tolkien’s books), it is the usual good versus evil plot. I can’t even imagine the time put into the names, lands, peoples and creatures, the different languages and customs. The characters were lovable, and my two favorite were Belo and Rafe, who were both “Amazing Nice,” and provided some comic relief. I had this book on my reading list and was thrilled when the Author, Bob Craton, offered me a copy in exchange for an honest review. Honestly, I’ll read this one again, maybe more than once. 5 stars from me! Appropriate for Jr. High and up. Well done Mr. Craton.

You get all three books in one for only $4.99 Kindle version! Well worth the money!

Book Review for “Breaking Free”- Christian Woman’s Non-fiction

This was a wonderful Woman’s Bible Study! I think everywoman should read it. Beth Moore gives insight into some of the common problems that women have gone through from infancy and how to break free from your past. I give the book 5 stars. The writing is simple, yet in depth. This book will change the way you think. Great for individual study or for a group study. I highly recommend this book. Appropriate for high school age and up.
