Book Review for “Tear of Min Brock” –Allegory/Fantasy

I was given a copy of this book by the author, J.E. Lowder in exchange for an honest review.
I really loved this book! It just kept getting better the farther I got. I loved the storyline, the characters are loveable. I found myself wiping away a few tears as I read. A great fantasy world. Will definitely be reading more from this author. There are several main characters, similar to Lord of the Rings. You have to pay attention to keep them all straight. For this reason I think that ages 14 and up would best understand it all, but a good read for jr. high students as well. The story is set in a society with strict rules and regulations about everything. The people live in fear and have given up on thing ever changing, but there is a whisper of hope! I give the book 5 stars.

Book Review for “The In-Between: Embarrassing the Tension Between Now and the Next Big Thing” Non-Fiction

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I try to read at least one non-fiction book per month along with my fiction. Sometimes they end up being informational, but dry. This one is not. It’s a good read as Jeff’s writing style is that of a true storyteller. This book is full of true life stories, his own and some short stories of others. The book invites us to look at the waiting times in our lives in a different light. I found it very though provoking and encouraging. I recommend it for everyone, especially young adults fresh out of high school or college. I am giving it a strong 5 stars and will be reading more from this author.

Book Review for “Fire Country” YA Fiction

I was given a copy by the author, David Estes, in exchange for an honest review. I loved this book! This is a great story with strong characters. The lead character is a young girl who faces the choice of living under the strict laws of her tribe and rebelling. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic society and is the first in a series. Several tribes and peoples are living in a harsh world and have learned to deal with it all in different ways. I fully plan on reading them all, as well as the sister series. A new favorite author. Due to the content I would recommend for high school age and up. A book for either gender. I give this book 5 stars.

Book Review for “Division of the Marked” YA Fantasy

I was given a copy of this book by the author, March McCarron, in exchange for an honest review. I really liked this book! It is great for the audience it was intended for, but also a good adult read as well. With strong lead characters, a good mystery and a lot to say about loyalty and friendship, the story captures your interest right away. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. Great YA Fantasy. I give this book 4 stars.

Book Review for “Hope’s Daughter by Melanie

Hope’s Daughter, Melanie Cusick-Jones is my kind of science fiction. In a futuristic society, on a space station, the young people’s lives are ordered for them, but all is not at it seems.I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be reading the rest of the series. Good writing and believable characters. I especially like that the book has some closer, while leaving the story open for the next book. I give this story 5 stars.

Book Review for “Crispens Point” Christian Romance

This was a nice read. Clean Christian romance with some good dating advice and morals for young girls. I thought the Pastor in the book, who happens to be one of the love interest a little odd. The book starts out pretty light, then takes a dramatic turn right at the end that I though was a little awkward. If your looking for a easy weekend read, this is it. I didn’t love it, but it was definitely worth the .99 I paid for it. I give it a solid 3 stars.

Book Review for “The Hollowmen” -Dystopian

“The Hollowmen” Book 2 in the Hollows Series continues on with Remy, the strong female character. These are your typical zombie apocalypse dystopian books, and the first one didn’t have a lot of the zombie stuff in it. This one did. I am still enjoying the storyline, but this one had way more gore, swearing and added some sexual contents, including an almost rape. So for me, that was a little much. I wouldn’t recommend for readers under the age of 17. Its action packed, easy reading, not too deep and there is a small element of romance. I am giving this second book three stars. If you love all things zombie, this one’s for you.
