Book Review for “External Forces” – YA Dystopian Fiction

This was a great dystopian YA read. The society in this future has shut out those that have deviated from their “norm” and those inside the walls are trained to hate those outside. A mix of military, romance and friendship. I would recommend for high school and up due to some sexual content. Nothing too explicit. This is the first in a series and I will be reading the rest. The book ends in a good place, but doesn’t finish the story. I wouldn’t read it as a stand alone, though I guess you could. My curiosity wants to find out about the rest of the story. Good writing, some of the romance a little predictable, but usually is. Great first book for Deborah Rix! I give it a solid 4 stars.

Book Review for “Flame of Risistance” Fiction

I read a lot of books and the majority of them I enjoy. I really like several and love quite a few. Then occasionally I read something that deserves more than a “loved it”. Those books deserve a spot on the top shelf. Flame of Resistance was one of those books. It was a book I got for free on Amazon and it was not only the best free book I have ever read, but one of the best books ever. Set during WWII, in occupied France, this story will grab you right from the beginning and keep you all the way through. A story of hope, freedom, evil and good, and a story of despair. Due to some mature content matter, I would only recommend for high school and up. But I think it is a must read for all of us born after the war. Though it is fiction, it has the truth written all the way through it. Great job Tracy Groot! I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

Book Review for “Trinity: War Dog” – Christian Fiction

Ronie Kendig is a new author for me. I saw this book for free on a Christian book website and hat to give it a try. I love a good military movie or story. This one was great. Set mostly in Afghanistan, it’s a great story of courage, weakness and loyalty. Throw in a touch of romance and some struggles with faith and you have a perfect mix. Oh, and I almost forgot the best part, the war dog Trinity and her love for her master. Can recommend for teens and up. There is some talk of torture, nothing too graphic. I have already put the rest of the series, as well as her other books on my ‘to read’ list. I give “Trinity” 5 stars. HOOAH.

Book Review for “Saving Sailor”- Chrisitan Fiction

This is one of the best books I have read this year. I loved it. If possible I would give it 6 stars. A charming book about a ten year old girl who spends the summers on an island with her quirky family and some fun characters. It made me remember some of our own shenanigans when I was young. Will definitely be reading the rest of AJ’s story. New favorite author. Great for kids and up. Good Christian moral story, told in a non-preachy real life way. I had a hard time laughing quietly while reading in bed, so as not to wake my hardworking husband! So many funny parts, but still some serious things as well. Good lessons on life and fun reminiscing.

Book Review for “Brave New Century” -Christian Fiction

This was a great grouping of short stories. I really liked “Brave New Century”. A good weekend read, or you can read a story every evening before bed. All the stories are written about the New Century. They all have a romance written in and a smidgen of history. Good for teens and up. I give it 4 stars.

Book Review for “Clockwork Dragon” Christian Fiction

This is a hard one to review. Many short stories by various authors, with the same theme of the clockwork dragon. Some sad, some happy, some humans, some fairies and some mer-people. I loved some, liked some and some were just ok. So I guess is I average them all out, I can give a solid 3 stars. It was a fun read. It gave me taste of the styles of the different authors. I had only read work by one of them before. It’s a good place to start, before buying full length books. Can recommend this book for teens and up. As of today, it is free on amazon for the kindle version.
