Loved it. Weald Fae Journals are all about modern day “fairies” (they prefer to be called Fae) and their interaction with humans. Specifically the O’Shea family. The final book! It was great. Much more battles and strategy, so if that isn’t your thing you may think it is a little boring in places. I actually like that stuff. The characters have held their own through the whole series. I still love the main character. A strong young woman, less that perfect, with a fierce loyalty to friends and family. I give it 5 stars. Great fantasy writing. Jr. High and up. No sexual content, mild swearing. I think there might have been a bit more of that in this last book.

Book Review for “Dragon Slayer: Beginning” -Christian Fantasy

I was given a copy of “Dragon Slayer: Beginnings” by the author, Carey Green, in exchange for an honest review. Wow, loved it! Another great Christian author. Now I can’t wait for the next one! A wonderful story of heartbreak, sorrow, hope! Good writing, good character development and an inspirational story. Good for audiences of Jr High age and up. I give it a solid 5 stars. Well done.

Book Review for “Planet Bound”- Science Fiction

I was given a copy of “Planet Bound” by the author, A. Marie Dinsmore, in exchange for an honest review. I liked the book. I would have liked the story better if the characters were a little more rounded. Also we are introduced to so many that have little or no part to play other than showing that they feel rejected, which is a common theme in this book. Potential for a good story. The storyline itself is interesting. Human kind is on a quest to find habitable planets. Tough female lead. I liked it. I give it three stars. High School age and up. Some language.

Book Review for “Matched”- YA Fantasy/Dystopian

Just loved book one! I can’t wait to finish up the series. If you liked “Hunger Games” you will love this one. Future society where they tell you “who to marry, where to work, and when to die.” Great characters, wonderful love story…and very revealing about todays society. I give it 5+ stars! I can recommend for Jr. High and up. No swearing or sexual content.

Book Review for “Tales of the Wovlen”-Fantasy

I was given a copy of “Tales of the Wovlen” by the author, Kathryn Fogleman, in exchange for an honest review. The story is set in a fantasy world where there is the ever present evil and good. In this story, the evil is beginning to show itself and we have an unlikely hero emerging. I really wanted to love this book and I think it is a good beginning and a great first book for this author. I felt like part of it was a little disjointed and some of the content seemed to repeat itself. So many of the characters reminded me of some of the Lord of the Rings characters that I couldn’t help comparing the two writers, which is totally unfair to Miss Fogleman. I am giving it 3 stars. It was ok. Will I read the rest of the series? Probably. There are so many unanswered questions and some unexplained things that I want to see it through. I can recommend for Jr. High age and up. Nothing offensive, some violence.

Book Review for “Water & Storm Country”- YA Fiction/Post Apocalyptic

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Let me start off by saying I begged the author for this book! I have read the others in this series (some I paid for and some I was given) as well as book one in the “Dweller” series. I loved them all. Easy to read, fast paced, full of different cultures and slang. The stories can be read alone, but are part of a growing story line. One more in the series and I am looking forward to reading it. YA fantasy, post apocalyptic at it’s greatest. I can recommend for Jr. High and up. Does contain violence and fighting. Nothing too graphic. No swearing (at least not words used in our world) and no sex. The characters are so likable, flawed and realistic. David has a great understanding of the young mind. I give “Water & Storm Country” 5 solid stars. Only now, having finished this book, I realize you should read the “Dweller” series first as they all cumulate in the final book “Earth Dwellers.”

Fairy Tales and Super Hero’s

Ok, so I love both. I grew up on fairy tales, being a lover of books and stories. My fondness for superhero’s came much later. Some people think me crazy or living in a fantasy world, but I beg to disagree. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis and so many other fantasy writers take what we loved as children in the classic happily ever after fairy tales and shown the dark side of man, and the love of God. Good versus evil, never gets old, especially when good wins out every time. I think the longing in us all to be saved, to save, to be part of something bigger, to have a purpose is why I love those stories. Almost every superhero story starts out with a flawed individual who ends up doing good, putting the needs of others before themselves.

Jesus told stories to get his point across. I think modern day story tellers can do the same. Unfortunately, our society seems to like the dark, satanic stories of torture and torment. Sometimes I even hate walking down the isles of the local movie rental place, the covers themselves enough to cause nightmares. I have to thank those who continue to show that good is better than evil. That a story should have a moral and a point. There are even a few who are brave and take chances and risks. Ted Dekker is one of those authors who couldn’t find a publisher at first due to talking about passion, sex and intimacy. But he stuck to his guns, and his convictions and is a writer of renown, not just in the Christian world. I have had the privilege of reading a few good Christian fiction books lately that have the message that I think our world needs, and they entertain as well. I am giving you their links. Please check them out and support those brave men and woman who continue to press on!
