Book Review for “Draw of Kings”- Christian Fantasy

Final book of the series, sad to see it end. I loved the set and this one was the best of all. Great writing, it sucks you into the story. The characters were great and the whole plot rocked your emotions one way or another. Humor, sorrow, hope, and just about every other one you can imagine. Well done! A new favorite author to add to the list. I give it five stars. I also recommend to anyone who loves fantasy or Christian fiction. Great for teens and up. No sexual content or swearing, lot’s of fighting and violence.

My Review:

What a great sequel. Hero’s Lot is book two of the “Staff and the Sword” Christian Fantasy Trilogy. So far I am very much enjoying these books. Some of it mirrors our own Church history, but most of it is pure fantasy. The main character is so real, flaws and all. All of the characters are well rounded and make you feel like you know them personally. I have laughed and cried, gotten angry and sad, but always had a hard time putting them down. Worth the money to buy them, or find them at the local library. Book one is offered free, Kindle version on amazon, book two is 5.99 and three is 9.99. I downloaded the free one, couldn’t find book two at the library, so purchased it, now I am borrowing book three! Will be checking out more from this author, be forewarned this is not a light read! It will take some time and some emotional toll. I give it five stars! No swearing or sexual content, there is fighting and violence. I can recommend for teens and up.

This is the last and final installment of the “Martian Girl” Series. All five were fun and pack full of action and great graphics. The pictures are not your run of the mill illustrations, but bright computer animated through out. There is some violence, no swearing, and loads of age appropriate humor. This one closes the series with our heroes saving not only earth, but Mars as well. Gilbert finally decides, after all the danger and adventure, that home isn’t so bad, even with homework and milking the cows.

I liked it and gave it four stars.

I can recommend for ages 9-13, unless you love sci fi and are a kid at heart.

Book four in “Aoleon the Martian Girl Series” continues the story of a Martian girl and a Human boy who are out to save Mars and Terran (earth), with the help of some interesting friends and through some scary and funny episodes. This book is as good as the first three. There is appropriate Middle Grade humor and talks about the importance of friendship. The cows on earth begin are being cow -napped while Aoleon and her friends are trying to handle things back on Mars. I give this book four stars. I liked it. Book Review for “Aoleon the Martian Girl: The Hollow Moon”-Middle Grade Sci Fi

What the book is about: The Hollow Moon (Part 3 of 5) Spying on the Luminon, Aoleon and Gilbert uncover his plot to steal Earth’s milk cows. They make the disturbing discovery that the Martian leader plans to disrupt Mars’ galact supply. Hoping to reach the galactworks before the Luminon’s saboteur, the duo races to warn Aoleon’s father, Deimos, manager at the galactworks, that he is in danger. While still on the run, Aoleon takes her pilot’s exam so she can join the Martian intergalactic exploration fleet. During the test-run, however, something goes horribly wrong. The two are put in a life-threatening situation, and only Bizwat, Aoleon’s Procyon commando friend, can save them. Gilbert finally gets his chance to learn to skyboard, but the lesson turns into a test of skill as he and Aoleon are chased by the Royal Paladin Guards. Will they survive?

This is book three in the series and the adventure continues. We finally find out the true nature of the Martian leader and this book is packed with action. There is some violence in this book as there are a few fight scenes. Aoleon and Gilbert are forced into a plot that thickens with every page. The Martian girl series is a good choice for chapter books for middle graders as it is fast paced and full of colorful pictures that are more like movie stills than illustrations.

Great graphics, great humor, and all around sci fi fun.

I give this book four stars. I liked it.

I can recommend for ages 9-13, though adult sci fi fans, who are kids at heart, would enjoy it as well.

Book Review for “Aoleon The Martian Girl: Science Fiction Saga Part 2 The Luminess of Mars”- Middle Grade Sci Fi

What the book is about: Aoleon and Gilbert are entrusted with a mission from PAX, a wanted criminal and leader of the Martian resistance movement. He wants them to investigate the Luminon of Mars, who he suspects is planning an invasion of Earth to steal its milk cows. Gilbert has an encounter with the Luminess (the mate of the Luminon) and discovers something strange about her. The undercover duo is chased by the Royal Paladin Guard.

At Aoleon’s home, Gilbert meets Aoleon’s sister Una, mother Phobos and father Deimos as well as her overzealous pet, Zoot. He is also introduced to Bizwat, a covert operator and Procyon Commando, who uses his Saturn Pizza delivery job as a cover.

Gilbert then gets to visit Aoleon’s school, the Martian Space Academy, where he encounters Aoleon’s nemesis, Charm Lepton, and her friend Quarkina. While there, he attends a history lecture on the Martian people by Plutarch Xenocrates. After class, Gilbert and Aoleon get to do some intense training in zero-G and Gilbert is treated to a Psi-ball match between Martian Space Academy and Martian Science Academy.

My Review: I was given a copy of “Aoleon The Martian Girl: Science Fiction Saga – Part 2 The Luminess of Mars” in exchange for an honest review.
This is book two of the series. We continue on with Gilbert on Mars with Aoleon. In this book we see more about what Martian life is like, including school. We meet new characters, some evil and some funny. The same humor continues in this one. There is a reference to a “Viagrian who gets easily excited.” I give this one three stars, I liked it. (I did have an issue with some of the pictures showing the Martian girls, though fully clothed, but with clear nipple outlines…and this is for middle grade age). Still great story and wonderful graphics.
The plot thickens.
I can recommend for ages 9-13.

Book Review for “Aoleon The Martion Girl”- Middle Grade Sci F

What the book is about: “Mars wants our cows (yes, cows!), and they’re sending an invasion fleet to take them from us. Only Gilbert and Aoleon the Martian Girl stand in their way!”

Gilbert always longed for adventure, but now that he has it, he’s not sure that it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. Ever since the night he met Aoleon the Martian Girl sitting in the middle of a crop circle in Farmer Johnson’s field, it’s been nothing but one wild ride after another.

From fighting off swarms of giant killer robots to dealing with strange aliens from another world – never mind trekking across the vast Martian desert and skyboarding deep into the center of a (hopefully) extinct volcano – Gilbert has had his hands full just trying to keep up with it all. And now it’s up to him and his new friend, Aoleon, to face off against the evil Martian overlord and keep our cows safe at home where they belong.

My Review: Aoleon The Martian Girl was a fun read! Fast paced with quirky characters, other planets, alien life forms, and UFO’s. The story line is geared for middle grade readers and the humor reflects that fact. The entire book from cover to cover is filled with great pictures. They are not your typical illustrations, but look more like movie stills. Gilbert meets Aoleon while she is on earth making crop circles. Soon they are running from an irate farmer and end up back on Mars. Gilbert finds out that life on Mars is similar, yet very weird.

A great start to the series. Good writing, maybe a tad too much scientific jargon for me. I think that anyone who likes sci fi with humor would enjoy the book even if they are older than the target group. I liked the book and will be continuing on with the rest of the series.
